There were alot of moving parts in this book.Here are my major takeaways 😒 Andreka talked all that fly mess about not wanting to be supported by another man, only to do exactly that in the end. Initially she was doing the barbering thing and I applauded that. But, after her encounter with Essence she fell right back into the exact same lifestyle of being a kept woman.When female authors write Alpha male characters they seem to over do it. Turning the characters into a trope of toxic masculinity. I just didn’t like Krucial’s disrespectful dialogue! Plain and simple. Calling a toddler the “N”-word just grates my nerves. I will never understand that? You can create an Alpha male without overdoing the toxic stereotypes.I was under the impression this was a story about Andreka and Krucials romance from conception to end. Why did every character need a chapter? This caused for the story to be lost due to me having to read about the supportive characters. Like, when and why did Andreka fall in love? Was it just due to the sex? We just sort of glazed over that! This novel included people who I wasn’t invested in. Lolly and Jory specifically. And It just made for an exhausting read.While i liken this to a easy read as this story didn’t really deal with any deep issues in my opinion. I kept waiting for Andreka to have a come to Jesus moment with her mother. And heal from that trauma. This is why I tend to read these books sparingly. I’ve clearly grown out of this genre. And feel like we should be delving into deeper issues than gang war and relationships. The whole time I was reading this. I was like is this even real? Like, we need to do better ! Will I read part 2? Not unless I am bored out my mind and just need something to do to take up a weekend👎🏾
